Mr Amer is a consultant general and abdominal transplant surgeon based at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle. He has expertise in kidney, liver and pancreas transplantation and is clinical lead for organ utilisation and donation surgery in Newcastle.
His private practice is at Spire Washington Hospital, with specialist interests in hernia surgery, abdominal wall reconstruction, gallbladder disease, benign hepatobiliary disease and laparoscopic/keyhole surgery.

Training and qualifications
Mr Amer gained his medical degree from Garyounis University in Libya in 2002. He completed a master’s degree in Advanced Surgical Practice at Cardiff University, a PhD in Liver Transplantation at Newcastle University, and a PGCert in Healthcare Leadership from The Open University.
He completed specialist surgical training in the North East of England and undertook a fellowship in liver transplantation at King’s College Hospital in London. He holds FRCS through the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
Professional interests
Mr Amer is actively involved in clinical research, with peer-reviewed publications and national and international presentations. He is a member of the British and European Hernia Societies and the British Transplantation Society.
