Fees and payment

Information for self-paying and insured patients

The Northern Surgical Clinic welcomes self-paying patients and patients using private medical insurance. This page explains the routes clearly before you book.

Self-Pay

Self-paying patients

Self-paying patients can arrange a consultation directly. The consultation fees are separate from any investigations, scans or hospital treatment costs.

  • Initial consultation: £200.
  • One follow-on telephone consultation before surgery is included where required and arranged within six weeks of the initial consultation.
  • Any follow-up consultation within the first 10 days after the operation is included where it relates directly to the surgery.
  • Follow-up consultations outside these complementary conditions: £100.
  • Tests or investigations required before surgery are charged separately and should be quoted clearly beforehand.

Cost of surgical treatment

Spire Hospital’s fixed price quote for treatment covers all the surgical treatment costs so you won’t get any unexpected bills or charges.

Finance options may be available to spread treatment costs, subject to eligibility and provider terms.

Insurance

Insured patients

Before your first consultation

Private medical insurers commonly require a referral and authorisation before treatment. You will need to provide policy documentation, insurer name, scheme details, membership or policy number, and any pre-authorisation or claim reference number to the bookings team.

Your insurance company can provide guidance on how to claim on your policy.

Before attending your first appointment, please contact your insurer to check the terms of your policy, particularly the level and type of outpatient cover you have, including any reimbursement limits on consultation fees and any excess on your policy.

Before and after surgical treatment

Check consultation, investigation, surgery and follow-up cover separately, because authorisation requirements may change as the treatment plan develops. Keep your insurer updated at every step.

Checklist

  • Confirm your level of cover before the initial consultation.
  • Provide policy details, membership number and any pre-authorisation or claim reference to the bookings team.
  • Check annual excess, co-payment, policy limits and exclusions.
  • Confirm whether tests, scans and follow-up appointments are covered.
  • Keep your insurer updated at every step.

Private health insurance guidance

Procedure prices and hospital quotes

Procedure prices can vary based on the exact operation, investigations required, anaesthetic fees and hospital package terms. If surgery is recommended, Spire Washington Hospital can provide an individual quote before treatment proceeds.

Self-pay patients should expect the clinic consultation fee to be separate from any investigations, hospital fees or operation package. Insured patients should confirm authorisation, policy excess, outpatient cover, investigation cover and follow-up cover before each stage of care.

Financial clarity: diagnostic tests, consultations and treatment should only proceed once the expected charges and payment route are clear to you.

Private medical insurance notes

Finance, insurance cover, excesses and authorisation rules should be confirmed directly with Spire Washington Hospital and/or your insurer before proceeding. Most policies require patients to pay any excess or co-payment that applies, and some policies have outpatient limits or exclusions.
